Rethinking Water: How Landgut Stober Sets Standards
in Sustainable Water Management

Sustainability that flows: The water concept of Landgut Stober

Water transition in everyday hotel life: how we save resources systematically at Landgut Stober

For us, sustainability is not just lip service, but part of our daily activities. Since our opening in 2012, we have been pursuing a comprehensive water management concept at Landgut Stober - and are now consistently expanding it: an existing well is being technically activated and integrated into our existing system.

All toilet flushes on our premises have always been supplied with rainwater via a secondary water circuit - fed from cisterns with a total volume of 400 cubic metres. This saves around 50 % of fresh water every year and significantly reduces our costs.

We also regulate the pressure at all tapping points individually with our own water pressure booster system. In combination with water-saving aerators on all taps, we reduce water consumption by a further 30 to 40 % - without our guests or employees having to sacrifice comfort.

We are now taking the next step with the new ‘LS-Aqua-Balance’ project: we are reactivating an existing well, equipping it with modern filter and control technology and integrating it into our secondary circuit. Intelligent water quality monitoring ensures that we can act safely and sustainably at all times.

This project is supported by the EU Cross-Re-Tour programme, more specifically by the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA). Thanks to the funding of 30,000 euros, we are realising the project together with experienced partners such as Sieber Brunnenbau Berlin. Our goal is clear: we want to further reduce our drinking water consumption and make ourselves as independent as possible from the public network in the long term - a great advantage, especially in times of low rainfall.

Resource conservation that works - and inspires

Sustainability at our hotel is not something that happens quietly in the background - we make it visible and tangible. Our guests and employees are actively involved in our overall ecological concept. Small notices, for example on the toilet lids, clearly explain our water cycle and show in a very practical way how resource conservation works in everyday life - with ease and without pointing fingers.

We see ourselves not only as pioneers, but also as a source of inspiration for other companies that want to reduce their ecological footprint. Because sustainability works - not by doing without, but through intelligent, effective solutions.

Does this make us the most sustainable hotel in Germany or even Europe?
We don't ask ourselves that question. What counts for us is something else: to show that it can be done - economically, responsibly and with genuine satisfaction.

And the facts speak for themselves:
- Germany's most sustainable private hotel since 2012
- Winner of the European Green Hotelier Award 2017 and 2021
- Highest ECOnGOOD rating worldwide

For us, sustainable management is an ongoing process - one that requires vigilance, development and passion. And this is exactly the path we take - day by day, drop by drop.
