Organic vacation in Havelland

Berlin-Brandenburg Broadcasting

,,The authentic restoration of the entire area was our highest priority."

Michael Stober and Tanja Getto, family who run the "Landgut Stober"< br>When it comes to the topic of an “organic vacation,” most people immediately think of sleeping in the hay and home-baked bread with picked herbs for breakfast. The organic hotel “Landgut Stober” on Lake Groß Behnitz not far away shows that this is not necessarily the case from Berlin. "We have now specially changed the homepage and shown rooms so that no false associations arise and the guests may be disappointed," says Michael Stober. Because if you want to sleep in the hay, you are in the 4-star hotel, which is not just for... It's definitely in the wrong place Old Substance
Michael Stober and Tanja Getto faced a Herculean task because it was a huge area. The estate comprises a total of 30,500 m² of land, of which around 20,000 m² belongs to the hotel. The latter includes several buildings such as the manager's house, the cattle stable or the coach house. "Except for the guest house, which in its baroque style represents a smaller variant of the former castle.

All buildings are brick buildings in the classic Schinkel style," explains the client. The entire ensemble was accordingly under construction Monument protection, which did not make it any easier to renovate the buildings, some of which were badly damaged. There was nothing left of the actual organic hotel, which now closes off the courtyard. “We then rebuilt the barn in the old cubature were still there, into which we then placed the new thing, "a cube within a cube, so to speak," said the client.

Down to the last detail
Not only with the critical monument office, with whom the collaboration was good and constructive once the understanding was there, but also in relation to the equipment demonstrated his expert knowledge. “We did a lot ourselves, right down to the smallest detail, for example the skirting boards. We put them up and then took them down again because we didn't like them. "That's why the design is self-contained and so successful," he remembers.

Another detail is the wooden floorboards in the rooms, which are as crooked as trees grow. "For this reason, all rooms were equipped with one “We measured them using special software and assigned them to the trees in the wood storage area,” says Michael Stober happily. In order to implement his sustainability concept, he ensured that all companies produced high-quality and sustainable products in accordance with their own philosophy. Nevertheless, it had to be modern, which is why some designer pieces were used in the furnishings. There are these high Vitra sofas in the foyer, which also absorb sound and form protected corners. In the breakfast room we have Arne Jacobsen's ants. "This furniture is chic, has quality and is extremely durable," explain Tanja Getto and Michael Stober, how they managed to harmonize the hotel philosophy with a modern line.

Strong partners
Of course, all of this has its price - especially when the comfortable mattresses are made from recyclable coconut fibers from Coco-Mat and a bed costs around €4,000 instead of €500 . It's hard to believe that Michael Stober had no investors and instead managed the entire project alone. This would not have been possible without a bank specifically geared towards sustainable projects, such as Triodos Bank, which supported the project in a positive and very cooperative manner. "We have invested a double-digit million sum on the Brandenburg sand," he smiles. An investment that was worth it, because a wonderful ensemble was created that does not deny its roots and is still modern in design. Anyone who is a guest in the hotel, not only enjoys architectural but also scenic enjoyment: "Since we are on the east side, our visitors can look from the terrace over the lake to the nature park and, in the evening, directly into the sunset."
